Sam Carrick is recalled in case ailing Nate Thompson can’t play in Game 7 – Orange County Register

ANAHEIM – Center Nate Thompson didn’t skate Tuesday with the Ducks, which when combined with the on-ice presence of center Sam Carrick of the San Diego Gulls of the AHL, led to speculation Thompson was injured and might not play Wednesday in Game 7 against the Edmonton Oilers.

Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said Thompson took “a maintenance day,” then added a cryptic comment that resolved nothing. Or very little, anyway, without reading between the lines a little more than 24 hours before the Ducks’ fifth Game 7 in as many seasons.

“He will be an option for us,” Carlyle said of Thompson, the Ducks’ fourth-line center who played only 8 minutes 44 seconds in Game 6 after averaging 10:51 during the playoffs. “If nothing changes between now and Wednesday morning, he will be an option for us.”
