Premier League clubs shelled out £80m to injured players

Premier League clubs paid out almost £80million in wages to injured stars during the first half of this season – with Manchester City taking a £9.2m hit on out-of-action players.

Pep Guardiola’s team suffered 17 injuries between July and December, with the average cost of each one coming in at £541,000.

Arsenal paid out £8.2m in wages to sidelined players, West Ham United £6.6m and Manchester United £6.5m, research by insurance broker JLT Speciality found.
