Longtime Millard vocal music teacher Michael Janis, 73, always ‘was first in line to help’ – Omaha World-Herald

Michael Janis’ love of vocal music and teaching affected the lives of many students over the years.

Over five days, an online memorial page started by one of his daughters had more than 100 posts and photos from former students and colleagues.

“It didn’t matter what anyone needed, he was first in line to help,” said his daughter Trish Cody.

Janis died last Saturday at Bergan Mercy Medical Center of complications from a stroke. He was 73. A celebration of life was held Friday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 13271 Millard Ave.

Janis, who was born in Chicago and graduated from Peru State College, spent his entire 35-year teaching career in the Millard school district.
