Singer-actress Janelle Monáe opened up about her temporary departure from music to Hollywood in February’s edition of American Way for American Airlines.
“I allow the universe to rearrange and reinvent me,” said the 31-year old beauty, who donned a short, layered tutu.
Monáe launched her acting career last year with a bang, appearing in the Oscar- nominated films “Moonlight,” directed by Barry Jenkins, and “Hidden Figures,” directed by Theodore Melfi.
The Kansas City, Kan., native, who has been nominated for six Grammy awards, admitted she always thought there was more in store for her than singing.
“I’ve never considered myself to just be a singer,” she said. “I have always considered myself to be an artist and storyteller. I want to continue to tell unique, untold and universal stories in unconventional ways,” she said.
