Seated in the Antioch High School office were Tosh Lupoi, Najee Harris’ high school coach and one of the school’s assistant coaches.
Harris saw them as the five-star running back walked by on his way to class. He looked in, saw Lupoi, smiled and said playfully, “Man, you’re here again?”
“That’s part of what makes him so good,” John Lucido, Harris’ high school coach, said of Lupoi. “Yes, he is always there, and he’s always going to be there.”
Since Lupoi became Alabama’s outside linebackers coach in 2015, he has been the best recruiter on a Crimson Tide staff full of touted and highly-ranked recruiters, the latest Alabama assistant to rank among the top recruiters in the country. Led by Lupoi, the Tide is on the verge of signing the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class for a seventh straight year.
