Monday night may be an occasion we will look back on in 15 years and pinpoint as the start of a manager establishing his presence on the next era of English football.

For 25 years, Sir Alex Ferguson has been the top dog of English managers. His personality has dominated the game like no other in that period and his departure leaves a massive void. The question is: Who can step into that role? Or indeed can anyone establish such authority in the same way again?

What is clear is that Jose Mourinho has the advantage of being an established presence in England with an extraordinary record and that at the moment his personality is influencing the debate.
