Family Picnics at the Beaches Around Dartmouth

 

 

A picnic with the family is something you can really look forward to if you go to the many beaches that are within easy access from your Dartmouth holiday cottages. Dartmouth is a very popular and historic port town that brings in a lot of visitors every year because of the many attractions that it offers. Going to Dartmouth guarantees that you will have a memorable holiday with your family. Here are some beaches that you can visit while you are staying at the luxurious and comfortable Dartmouth holiday cottages.

 

Challaborough Beach

 

The Challaborough Beach is a small horse shoe shaped cove that is popular among surfers and body boarders.  It is a popular venue for top class surf competitions. This beautiful fine sand beach has several interesting rock pools that children would love to explore. You can also stroll on the imposing cliffs on the South Devon coast. This Blue Flag beach is clean and great for having a family picnic with a café nearby where you can order some food if you did not bring a picnic basket with you. It is very safe for swimming with guaranteed clean waters and the presence of lifeguards.  Located in Challaborough, it is a 20.5 mile drive away from your Dartmouth holiday cottages. On the beach are toilets and first aid facilities as well as an ample car park.

 

Beesands Beach

 

This one mile long shingle beach is located at Kingsbridge, an 11 mile drive from your Dartmouth holiday cottages. This beautiful beach is located in an equally lovely village and there is a sea wall that protects the cottages and pub. The Cricket Inn is open the whole day and you can get delicious food and great drinks here which you can take back to the beach for a family picnic. At the back of the beach is a large expanse of grassland and a freshwater lake. You can also take a walk on the coastal path that passes through the village. Otherwise, the beautiful village church is a great place to worship and meditate as it is open during the summer months. You can find toilet facilities and a fresh fish shop as well as food kiosks selling ice cream and snacks right near the beach.  From the months of May up to the end of September, a lifeguard is on duty. Dogs are permitted all throughout the year so have some great time with your family and pet at Beesands Beach.

 

Thurlestone Beach & South Milton Sands

 

You can take a few minutes ride from your Dartmouth holiday cottages and you will reach Thurlestone Beach & South Milton Sands which is 17.5 miles away from the centre of Dartmouth. These two beaches are located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or AONB.
