Cypress pulls out victory in seventh to win share of Empire title – Orange County Register

CYPRESS >> Isaiah Parra’s line drive that scorched the grass to the left-center field wall scored Elias Rios from first base with two outs in the seventh inning to lift Cypress to a 1-0 victory over Tustin in an Empire League showdown for the league title on Thursday at Cypress.

The Centurions finished 8-2 in league and are 17-12-1 overall going into the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 playoffs next week. Cypress is co-champions with Valencia, which defeated Pacifica, 7-2, on Thursday to also finish 8-2 in league.

Tustin (16-13-1, 7-3) finished third in league and earned a guaranteed spot in the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.

Josh Landry, a lanky 6-foot-5 junior left-hander, went the distance for Cypress, allowing five hits and three walks. He struck out nine. Tustin junior right-hander Dwayne Angebrandt II pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and one walk and striking out two in a strong performance.
