Broken water main causes damage at Cal State Fullerton basketball court, recreation center – Orange County Register

A burst water line flooded the basketball court and other areas of the recreation center at Cal State Fullerton Monday night, May 8. Crews were still drying up the facilities and evaluating damages Tuesday morning.

On Monday night sometime around 9 p.m. campus police got a call of a fire alarm going off at the campus recreation center. One of the main water lines, which was an exposed pipe in the ceiling, had ruptured spilling water, said Capt. Scot Willey of the Cal State Fullerton Police Department.

“We have a theory that someone was hanging off it,” Willey said. Much of the water affected the carpeted stairwell area and the basketball gym which Willey estimated was covered with about an inch of water.

By 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, crews had mopped the gym floor of water and were using fans to dry out the wet areas.
